The flowering Dogwood is the state flower for both North Carolina and Virginia, and the state tree for Virginia and Missouri. It may have gotten its name from its medicinal properties in treating dogs for mange. The flowers themselves can be used for making inks and dyes, and when left to berry, are an excellent food source for birds.
Here in Phoenixville, I look forward to the Dogwood Festival every May, when the trees are all in bloom and the parks crowded with friendly faces!
Created on a 6″x6″ wood panel, this one of a kind artwork was handmade by Alecia Miller through a process of layering in the background and utilizing the transparency of the paints to achieve the light and airy feel of the final painting.
The artwork has been sealed with a protective varnish and is mounted in a black wood frame, ready to display in your home.
