I used the zendala template from this week’s Bright Owl Zendala Challenge to work on a larger piece, so it isn’t done yet. But seeing as today is the day Erin normally posts the new challenge, I figured I would post what is done, and will provide an update later when it is complete.
I have been playing around with Tri-roda (from Eni Oken) and Narwal (from Samantha Taylor) a lot lately, and thought they worked well together to form these trumpet like shapes. Filled in the rest with Fleavy (from Hanny Waldburger). I still have some rounding to do in ink and then the decision of keeping it black and white or adding color. I am leaning toward color, but let me know what you think.
Tri-roda, Narwal, Fleavy
In the Square One Facebook groups this week’s focus is on Meringue. I had a lot of fun with this (those curves are my fav!) and threw in some Buttercup as well.

Last night was the first night of the 6 week course I am teaching as part of our local night school program. I have a wonderful mix of students and we all had a great time. After our first tile, we only had about 15 minutes left, so we did a quick Bijou tile to get one more pattern in. Can’t wait for next week!
Tile 1: Crescent Moon, Hollibaugh, Printemps, Florz
Tile 2 (Bijou) – Flux
Just a quick post today to share a couple of things.
First up – the Bright Owl Zendala Dare #108. The center of this template immediately reminded me of the star shape you can get from Arukas, so that is what I started off with, then added a little Mumsy and some Beadlines.
Arukas, Mumsy, Beadlines
I’ve also been working on another zendala – this one a larger piece that I will be donating to a fundraiser for a local family (whose 3 yr old son was in a tractor accident in the spring) to help pay for ongoing medical expenses. This piece is still in progress, but here is a sneak peak.
Zendala in progress
Been busy with some other things as well, which I hope to share with you soon, but too busy to get it all posted this week. Hope your lives are busy in a good way too!
Its been another busy week here with teeth, tangles, and back to school!
My little one had her first ‘official lost tooth’ come out Sunday night, just in time for the first day of school. (Her first 2 had to be pulled when the adult teeth came in behind them – the dentist said he had never seen ones with the entire root still attached like hers – they just did not want to go!) But this one wiggled its way out like normal. Yay!!!
Here are a couple of tiles from the facebook groups Weekly Zentangle Video (WZTV) and Square One. Last week’s Square One tangle was Windfarm, which I snuck in just under the wire.
Windfarm, with some metallic accents
This week’s was Yincut, which I combined with OOF, the tangle focus for the WZTV group. I really like the play of OOF and Fife next to each other, and may have to play around with those 2 a bit more.
Yincut, OOF, and Fife
I also did the Bright Owl Zendala challenge – a nice open zendala for us this week, so I filled with just 3 patterns, including Watusee, by Virginia Lockhart, which I had been wanting to try out.
Watusee, Chainlea, Dragonair
I hope your September has started off well! Don’t forget to follow the links above to check out how others have taken on the tangling this week.
I was able to get back to some weekly challenges now that I am home, even though this has been a busy week with other life stuff.
I started off with the Diva Challenges. The first is a catch up from last week where Erin Olson from The Bright Owl provided a template for us to use. I took the opportunity to try out Frost Flower by Karry Heun and TA-DA from Margaret McKerihan (although the way I used it, it reminds me more of Inapod).
Frost Flower, TA-DA, Flux
Then I got busy with this week’s challenge from guest Sharla Hicks who challenged us to use tangles that use undulating C and S lines. I have to admit that patterns like this are some of my favorites to draw, so I was a happy camper.
I go so caught up in these curves, that when I saw the new zendala template for this week’s Zendala Dare, I just had to keep going!
“I mustache if you like this zendala…”
Be sure to go check out the rest of the undulations going on over at the Diva’s (that sounds naughty) and the zendalas at the Bright Owl.
Erin Koetz Olson at the Bright Owl Zendala Dare gave us a wonderful template this week. I had a bunch of different thoughts on how to approach it, and ended up making 2 different versions.
This first one got transferred a little off center, but I just went with it. (No mistakes in Zentangle®, right?)
Aquafluer, Printemps & more
I’d been itching to break out the Renaissance tiles that I got in Providence last month, so this zendala was the perfect excuse for that.
Onamato, BTL Joos, Tipple, Mooka, Flux
I’ve also joined a new group on Facebook – The Weekly Zentangle Tangle Video (WZTV). They select a tangle each week and then the tiles are compiled into a video slideshow by Jane Dickinson, who does a great job running the group. This week’s tangle is Verdigogh.
Verdigogh, Tagh, Diva Dance
I’d love to hear your feedback, and don’t forget to go check out all the other Zendala’s over at the Bright Owl this week.
